Ellenbrook Ballet Academy Presents
Ascend!

Every journey is made up of moments that shape us, challenges that help us grow, and dreams that inspire us to reach higher.

ASCEND celebrates a year of growth, transformation and new beginnings at Ellenbrook Ballet Academy. As we step into an exciting new chapter, we celebrate not only how far we've come, but the endless possibilities that lie ahead.

Through movement, music and storytelling, our dancers will take to the stage to showcase their dedication, creativity and achievements from the year.

From the tiniest first steps to the confidence of our more experienced performers, every dancer has a story worth celebrating.

This is more than a celebration of a year of dance. It's a celebration of courage, connection, ambition and the magic that happens when we believe in ourselves and one another.

Together, we're reaching higher, dreaming bigger and discovering what's possible.

This is ASCEND.
Dream it. Do it.

What to Wear & Bring

To help our dancers feel prepared and confident on concert day, please read the following information carefully. Having everything organised before arriving will help ensure a smooth and stress-free experience for everyone!

COSTUME HIRE

All costumes are hired from EBA and must be returned following the concert. There are no additional costume fees for the first hired costume, as this is included in the Concert Participation Fee.

Arriving in Costume

This year, students will arrive at the venue already dressed in costume.

If your child performs in multiple routines, they must arrive wearing their first costume, which will be clearly identified on their garment bag.

Looking After Costumes

Do not remove any labels or name tags from garment bags or coat hangers.

Keep all costumes on the hangers provided to ensure they remain organised and in good condition.

Please take care when handling costumes and keep them clean and safe throughout the concert.

Costume Returns

All costumes will be returned to EBA staff at the end of the show.

Failure to return a hired costume will result in the full replacement cost being charged.

FINALE COSTUME

All students will participate in the Finale at the end of their show.

Each performer will receive a Concert T-shirt, which they will wear for the Finale (last dance of the show involving all students).

Students will need to wear black shorts or leggings with their Concert T-shirt. Please pack this in your dancer's bag with their name clearly labelled inside the shorts / leggings.

COLOUR GROUPS & BACKSTAGE

To help keep our dancers organised, safe and ready for their performances, students will be allocated to a designated colour group for the duration of the show.

Each colour group will have designated backstage arrangements to help our team manage student movements, costume changes and performance call times.

What families need to know:

Students will remain backstage with their allocated colour group for the duration of their show.

Dancers will be supervised by our EBA team while backstage.

Students will be organised and escorted to and from the stage when it is time for their performances.

Dancers performing in multiple routines will remain with their allocated group between performances.

Please ensure your dancer arrives at the designated check-in area at their allocated arrival time.

Colour group allocations and any additional instructions will be communicated to families before concert day.

If there is any information that we need to know about your child, including any medical details - please let us know before the day!

Please note: Parents are not permitted backstage.

TECH REHEARSAL - ALL STUDENTS (excluding Budding Ballerinas)

Students must arrive at the venue at 9:30am ready in their first costume and with all required belongings.

Upon arrival, families will be directed to the appropriate student check-in area. Our team will confirm each dancer's attendance and direct them to their allocated backstage group.

Please arrive on time, as late arrivals can affect backstage organisation and performance preparations.

Pick up for tech rehearsal is 1pm. Students will change into their finale shirt and black bottoms, no student is to leave the venue in costumes. This is a great chance to grab a meal before the show with your dancer. If we are running early, we will communicate this via Band.

CONCERT ARRIVAL
Students return to the venue after their dinner break at 2:30pm. They will meet back with their group leader and return to their dressing room to prepare for the show!
Parents are asked to wait in the foyer until the auditorium doors open and then find their seats.

DURING THE SHOW

Once checked in, students will remain backstage with their allocated colour group until the conclusion of their show.

Our team will coordinate performance call times, stage entrances and backstage movements to ensure the show runs smoothly.

Students should follow all instructions from EBA teachers and backstage supervisors throughout the event.

Please remind your dancer that backstage is a special performance space. We ask all students to listen carefully, remain with their group and treat fellow performers, costumes and venue facilities with care.

AFTER THE SHOW
Students will be collected in the foyer after the show, and will be dismissed group by group. For the safety of our students, all parents must sign out their child with a staff member - no students will be released without a parent talking to EBA staff.

Students will change into their finale t-shirt and black bottoms, and will go home in this. No costumes are to be taken home.

COSTUMES & BELONGINGS

All students must arrive wearing their first costume, with any additional costumes, shoes and personal items packed in their labelled garment bag and clear tub.

Please ensure all belongings are labelled with your dancer's full name.

For full costume, footwear, stockings and packing requirements, please refer to our What to Wear & Bring section.

Thank you for helping us create a positive, organised and memorable concert experience for every EBA dancer.

We can't wait to see our dancers take the stage and ASCEND!

Hair & Makeup

We understand that hair and makeup can sometimes be a challenge, especially with our younger dancers! Please don't stress — we simply ask that you do the best you can with what your child is comfortable with.

Our younger performers do not need makeup as heavy as our older students. We just need enough colour and definition so their faces don't appear washed out under the bright stage lights.

The most important thing is that your dancer feels happy, comfortable and ready to shine on stage!

HAIR

Hair is to be done in a centre part low bun. It should be slicked with no flyaways.

A bun net is required over the bun with adequate pins to ensure it is secure and not at risk of falling out.

Use hairspray to help keep hair in place.

Secure any loose strands so they don't fall across the face during performances.

MAKEUP

Makeup is preferred for our younger performers, but we understand that not every child will feel comfortable wearing it. If your dancer is hesitant, a small amount of makeup is absolutely fine.

Stage makeup needs to be a little heavier than everyday makeup because bright stage lighting can wash out facial features. The goal is to add natural-looking colour and definition without making makeup look cakey or mask-like.

Simple makeup guide

Foundation: Apply a light, even base. A slightly deeper shade than your dancer's everyday foundation may be needed to compensate for stage lighting.

Blush: Apply a pinkish-brown blush to the cheekbones to add warmth and definition.

Eyeshadow: Apply brown eyeshadow to the eyelids, concentrating along the lash line.

Mascara: Apply black mascara to the top and bottom lashes, if appropriate for your dancer.

Lipstick: Finish with red or pink lipstick. The recommended colour is available for purchase through EBA.

Boys are not required to wear makeup.

Makeup Kits

Dancer makeup kits will be available to purchase through the EBA online store.

JEWELLERY & NAIL POLISH

To maintain a consistent stage appearance and help keep our dancers safe, please ensure:

No jewellery is worn, including earrings.

All jewellery is left safely at home.

Nail polish is removed before concert day.

Please check your dancer before leaving home to ensure these requirements have been met.

Most importantly, please don't feel pressured to achieve a perfect result. We appreciate your efforts and want every dancer to feel confident, comfortable and excited to perform.

Thank you for helping us get our little stars ready to shine at ASCEND!
